Ian Wright amazed by 27-year-old Manchester United player after ‘beautiful’ moment vs Liverpool

Ian Wright was full of praise for Scott McTominay after Manchester United claimed a dramatic win over Liverpool on Sunday to book their spot in the FA Cup semi-final.

Erik ten Hag will hope that this weekend proves to be a turning point in his tenure. Of course, ten Hag continues to have his doubters. But there is no question that Sunday was a special occasion for his team.

It was Scott McTominay who broke the deadlock in the opening 10 minutes. And he went on to make a crucial impact in extra-time, with the assist for Marcus Rashford’s equaliser.

United won possession back after Darwin Nunez attempted to get the Reds up the pitch. And that led to McTominay having the chance to play in Marcus Rashford.

The Scotland international did brilliantly to put the ball on a plate for the forward. And Rashford took full advantage, finding the bottom corner to make the scoreline 3-3.

Speaking on after the win for ten Hag’s men (broadcast on 17/3; 18:21), Ian Wright suggested that McTominay deserves huge praise for that assist for Rashford.

He said: “You do have to look at Darwin Nunez there and think what are you doing there?

“The thing is he’s got the capability to take that and play it back to the left-back. You don’t put it back into that area there, you just don’t do that.

“The pass [from McTominay] was perfect, the pass was beautiful. And he’s just got to turn it in.”

Another big moment from the Scotland international

McTominay has had a knack of coming up with some really big moments for United this season. The 27-year-old has scored nine goals and contributed three assists in all competitions.

Perhaps he should not be the player to come to Manchester United’s rescue. But there is no question that he has bailed them out on a number of occasions this season.

He is arguably an ideal player to have in the squad. And you cannot deny that he keeps stepping up when United need something from someone.
