Ian Rush heaps huge Instagram praise on Liverpool teenager

Owen Beck enjoyed an excellent week at Liverpool last week after being promoted to senior training under Jurgen Klopp last Thursday – before shining for the Under-23 side on Saturday, and has now earned praise from Ian Rush.

Beck, 18, was promoted to senior training with Andy Robertson being handed a rest day last Thursday while James Milner and Konstantinos Tsimikas have been on the sidelines through injury.

It was a sign that Liverpool are more than ready to turn to their young players, with the likes Rhys Williams, Jake Cain, Billy Koumetio and Caoimihin Kelleher all playing at senior level this season.

Then, Beck continued his great week by shining for Liverpool’s Under-23 side in Premier League 2’s first division – though the Reds did suffer a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, as Jack Clarke scored late on for Spurs.

Beck created all three goals. Liam Millar headed home his cross, before supplying Tyler Morton with an inch-perfect cut-back. Liverpool’s third came when Beck made a driving run towards the byline before supplying Jack Bearne.

Liverpool legend Rush, who is Beck’s great uncle, congratulated the Wales Under-17 international on Instagram – even though the defeat saw Liverpool’s Under-23 side lose their third consecutive PL2 match.

Beck is yet to make his senior debut but given his connection to Rush, his immediate form in the reserve team and the fact he is a full-back laying on assists, he certainly has a chance.
