Ian Holloway gives his verdict on the future of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips

The future of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been the subject of much speculation this summer. Premier League newcomers Aston Villa are interested in signing the tenacious 23-year-old, according to .

However, the Whites have so far stood firm against the Villans’ advances. It’s easy to see why Marcelo Bielsa is so desperate to keep Phillips at Elland Road. The midfielder was in fantastic form for the club last season as they came close to promotion. If the Yorkshire outfit are to go one better, and secure a return to the top flight this time around, then they’ll need the local lad to be at his best once again.

Phillips is not only loved by his boss, but also by the fans at Elland Road. Having seen him come through the club’s academy, the Englishman holds a special place in the hearts of the Leeds faithful.

Former QPR, Blackpool and Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway believes that Phillips would likely be well-served by staying at Leeds. Although Villa could offer him Premier League football immediately, Holloway said, “anyone even considering looking to leave Leeds has to ask the question why”. “I believe under Marcelo Bielsa they could be the club they want to be”, he continued, as quoted by the .

Holloway concedes that automatic promotion will be tough for Leeds to achieve this season. However, he added that under Bielsa “I can only see them getting better because the man is not far off a genius”.

Clearly, Holloway believes Phillips should seriously consider staying at Elland Road. If he does so, he could be a central part of something very special that is developing there under Bielsa.
