Ian Holloway expresses interest in vacant Sunderland job after Charlie Adam tips him
Ian Holloway has expressed his interest in taking the vacant manager’s job at Sunderland after Jack Ross was sacked yesterday.
Holloway, who managed in the Premier League with Blackpool, was asked on whether he’d take the Black Cats hotseat and answered with typical enthusiasm.
He : “That’s a magnificent job for somebody. There’s all sorts of names being mentioned. What a wonderful, wonderful opportunity with a great fan base to actually get things going again.
When asked directly if he’d take the Sunderland job, he : “I’d run there now. I’ve never been favourite for anything, I’ve always been the underdog. I’d love the challenge of a football club like that.”

TBR’s View – Holloway has the enthusiasm but would he get Sunderland firing again?
The conversation started because Charlie Adam, who Holloway managed at Blackpool, tipped his old boss to be the man to restore Sunderland to their former glory.
Would he be the man? Holloway certainly shares the passion for football which is on show in the north east and would try and play attractive football.
There are likely to be younger managers in the frame and probably those who are a safer pair of hands. But Holloway does play good football, put his heart and soul into his clubs and that’s not a bad starting point for Sunderland right now.
Whoever they do get will be under huge pressure from the off because another season without promotion will not be tolerated.
