Ian Holloway claims £47m Manchester United player ‘blames everybody else’

Ian Holloway has criticised Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, questioning his credentials as club captain.

The coach, speaking on , believes the Red Devils player is “not a leader” and claimed “he blames everybody else”.

Fernandes is currently among Man United fans. While he’s obviously a great midfielder, the jury remains out on him as captain.

For instance, the man received criticism from the likes of Paul Scholes for his post-match interview after the Galatasaray draw.

“I know in his interview he is talking about mistakes, but he made two big mistakes tonight by giving two stupid fouls away that lead to two goals,” Scholes responded on TNT Sports, via .

“The full team, including himself as the captain, have to take responsibility – it’s a game they should win.”

‘He blames everybody else’

And in terms of discipline, Fernandes has picked up seven yellow cards this season, and was ruled out for the trip to Liverpool.

Holloway believes that, as a Man United captain, the Portugal international can’t hold a candle to the likes of Roy Keane.

“If you look here, attitude attitude attitude,” he said. “Their players used to have the best attitude to want to win.

“And now, as Roy Keane said the other day, ‘hang on a minute’, you know, because he saw the team try really hard without Bruno Fernandes.

“Fernandes was given a new contract… when they weren’t doing very well, and I’m sorry, he’s not a leader for me. He is not a leader. He blames everybody else! That’s not a leader.

“What you do is you’re out there and you do it like Roy Keane used to, you know, but there ain’t many of them around, is there?”

Erik ten Hag has Bruno Fernandes dilemma ahead of Manchester United trip to West Ham

Normally, a captain should be an undroppable player. But while Fernandes seemed like a good shout for the role, Erik ten Hag now has a dilemma on his hands.

There’s actually a case for the Man United manager to drop his captain, considering how well Sofyan Amrabat, Kobbie Mainoo and Scott McTominay played together last weekend.

Man United’s midfield has looked unbalanced for much of the season so far, but against Liverpool, this was not the case. And against West Ham, Ten Hag must be careful not to disrupt this balance.

At the same time, Fernandes should be fresher after his enforced rest, and his attacking qualities could play a key role against the Hammers. Not to mention – he’s the captain and should start when available, after all.
