Ian Harte makes bold claim about Leeds defender Leif Davis
Ian Harte has boldly claimed that Leif Davis is the best left-back that Leeds United have in their squad at Elland Road.
The 20-year-old defender hasn’t had much senior football since he joined the Whites, but is a highly-rated youngster tipped for a big future.
He’s made just five first-team appearances so far this season for the Yorkshire club, with injuries and competition for places halting his progress to really kick on.
The rapid full-back has mainly been involved with the Under-23s side this campaign and his last senior outing came back in November in the Championship.
Harte has suggested that the inexperienced star is the best option within Marcelo Bielsa’s squad for the left-back role, which seems remarkable considering the options available.
Stuart Dallas is first-choice for the position due to the way he’s adapted so well from midfield to defence, plus there are also senior stars Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas in the mix.
Davis will be desperate to try earn more senior opportunities, but young teammate Theo Hudson is another rising star from the academy right on his tail.
“I personally think that the best one (left-back) at the club is the young lad, Leif Davis. He is a top, top player – but I’m not the manager of Leeds United, that’s his decision,”
“Leif is good on the ball, he gets forward and he can defender. He’s everything that you’re looking for in a defender nowadays. But he’s only young so he has to be patient and wait for his opportunity.

TBR’s View:
Davis certainly looks a promising young defender on the books at Leeds, but he would have to show major improvement to break into the main plans of Bielsa.
He was valued at £4million during last summer’s transfer window amid interest from Liverpool and Bournemouth (), but he needs more exposure to first-team football and has only made 10 senior appearances for Leeds since he joined back in 2018.
It would be wise for Bielsa to consider sending him out on loan next season at some stage, as he needs minutes to really start living up to potential.
