Ian Harte has hailed the ability of Leeds forward Tyler Roberts

Ian Harte has raved about the ability of Leeds United’s Tyler Roberts and believes he’s a very intelligent player.

The Wales international was signed from West Brom for £2.5million () back in January 2018 and he’s had his fair share of injury problems since his switch to Elland Road.

He’s managed just 45 appearances for the Whites since his move, but has shown enough on the pitch to suggest he could have a big future ahead of him.

The 21-year-old is a versatile attacker that can slot into a wide role or the number 10 position, but is recognised mainly as a centre-forward.

He has scored three goals in 14 appearances so far this season for the Yorkshire club, including a brace off the bench in a 4-0 away win at Hull City.

Harte believes it will be frustrating for Roberts that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa only operates with one central striker, with Patrick Bamford his first-choice option this season.

“Since he signed from West Brom he’s really matured. Okay, he’s had a few niggling injuries since he arrived but he’s definitely a very clever player,”

“He’ll get you goals and drop into those pockets where defenders will want to come out, so he’s a very intelligent player. It’s just frustrating for the strikers there because of the formation that they play and the fact that it’s only one up front.”

TBR’s View:

Roberts is someone that brings plenty of pace and excitement on the ball, plus he must be desperate to prove himself after such poor luck with injuries.

But unfortunately Bamford is the massively favoured by Bielsa and he’s stuck by him this season, with 13 goals in his 38 appearances across all competitions.

Leeds do have options to mix it up though when they have a full squad available and Roberts is such a threat in behind that he has to come into the thinking to start certain fixtures.
