‘I wouldn’t say he was poor’: Jamie O’Hara defends Spurs player v Saints

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Dele Alli has received support from Jamie O’Hara following the Southampton game.

The former Spurs midfielder said the England international delivered an “okay” performance.

Conte deployed Alli on the right of the Tottenham front three against Saints.

However, the 25-year-old struggled in the unfamiliar position.

Although Alli worked hard, he couldn’t make much of an impact, and Conte took him off on 62 minutes.

The Spurs midfielder has struggled to cement a regular first-team spot for a while now.

Speculation regarding Alli’s future persists and, with the January transfer window coming up, that’s likely to increase.

Nonetheless, O’Hara felt Alli’s display “wasn’t poor”

At the same time, he acknowledged that the player would’ve probably been disappointed with his display.

“Dele was ok,” O’Hara said on Sky Sports ().

“It was an average performance. He will be disappointed with his display, but l wouldn’t say he was poor.”

Conte has looked eager to give Alli a chance since he took the Tottenham reins.

The former MK Dons man started for Spurs against Liverpool, where he delivered a decent performance.

Although Alli missed a gilt-edged chance, he looked dangerous and was heavily involved throughout the game.

And perhaps it’s not too surprising that any player would struggle playing out of position, as he did against Saints.

The January transfer window will be interesting as far as Alli’s future goes.

While the player is clearly talented, it remains to be seen what Conte has in store for him.
