‘I wonder’… Mark Guidi thinks he might know the next destination of former Celtic winger Jota

How much would the Celtic fans give to see Jota back at Parkhead? It’s a rumour that has been doing the rounds for a wee while now. But could it really happen?

After his £25m move from Celtic in the summer, the Portuguese ace has been out in the cold for pretty much his whole time at Al-Ittihad.

With news that Nuno Espirito Santo has been sacked and is now flying in for talks with Nottingham Forest, Mark Guidi thinks that is where the 24-year-old could end up now.

Guidi said [], “Espirito Santo is flying in for talks with Nottingham Forest and, of course, the former Rangers director of football Ross Wilson is in a similar role at Nottingham Forest so he’ll have a bit of say.

“I wonder, if we’re just joining the dots, if Nuno Espirito Santos does get that job, does that open the door for Jota to go there on loan in January given that Santos signed them for the Saudi Arabian club?”

Could Jota return to Celtic?

Reports last night seem to suggest that his club are keen to get him to return to Glasgow. said that claimed that Al-Ittihad had contacted Celtic about a possible loan move for Jota.

But let’s face it, with the best will in the world, unless the Saudi club pick up the vast majority of Jota’s salary there is absolutely no way he could come back to Celtic.

And then the question would be is Jota motivated to return to Scotland as well? After two seasons at Celtic, he would be returning to a very different club to the one that he left.

With no Ange Postecoglou at the helm, Jota could be casting his eye at a Tottenham move as he looks to rekindle his relationship with the former Celtic gaffer.

As for Nottingham Forest, with the greatest of respect, Jota could go to a far bigger club than that. The fallen giants are struggling in 17th place in the English Premier League.

A player like Jota wouldn’t thrive in a dogfight. He needs a team that plays expansive football and that’s why Spurs seem like the perfect fit.

So, Jota to Celtic? It would be a great Christmas present but I think this is one even Santa couldn’t pull out his sack.
