‘I think’: Tim Sherwood predicts who’s going to finish higher this season – Tottenham or Newcastle

Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to move up into the Champions League places.

The Magpies grabbed some more deserved plaudits for their win on Spurs’ turf and in truth, they could have had more first half goals.

Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood was asked on the who he now thinks will finish higher in the table between the two clubs.

Sherwood conceded that Newcastle are by far the more entertaining side to watch right now but pointed out one key advantage Tottenham have.

Sherwood on Tottenham and Newcastle

When the question was put to Sherwood in the wake of the weekend result, the former Spurs and Aston Villa boss said: “It’s about the consistency.

“At the moment you’d want a season ticket at Newcastle… But I think Harry Kane helps you finishing higher up the league.”

Antonio Conte has suffered a damaging week, with his attritional style of football coming up short against Manchester United and Newcastle.

But the Italian came into his own at the business end of last season, getting Spurs into the top four and holding his nerve.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle are doing a sensational job and perhaps their lack of European football this season can help them qualify for continental competition.

They will be fresher to go and attack the Premier League games and of course they will go for broke in the cups too, to try and end the club’s long trophy drought.
