Paul Merson has delivered his verdict on Chelsea-owned Southampton star Armando Broja amid rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal in the summer.

revealed earlier this month that Mikel Arteta’s side are keeping an eye on the 20-year-old. revealed a few days later that the Chelsea man, who was once a part of Tottenham’s academy, is even willing to move to Arsenal if his parent club is prepared to let him leave.

Broja has been outstanding for Southampton on loan this season. He has scored eight goals in all competitions already and he will surely be a wanted man in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Merson is a big fan of the striker and he strongly believes that Broja has a future at Chelsea – even if the Blues sell him this summer. The pundit has claimed that Thomas Tuchel will include a buy-back clause in any deal, when they sold him to Roma a few months ago.

Paul Merson: Chelsea will include a buy-back clause if they sell Arsenal-linked Broja

Merson, who has played with plenty of great strikers back in the day, knows a good number nine when he sees one. Broja has clearly impressed him.

The Englishman wrote in his column on : “Armando Broja is someone who has really caught my eye this season and I strongly believe he’s got a future at Chelsea.

“He’s big, he’s strong, he’s quick and has shown that he can score goals consistently at the top level.

“So, even if Chelsea do let him go (in the summer), I think they’ll look to include a buy-back clause in his contract.”

It is no surprise that soon-to-be striker-less Arsenal are keeping an eye on Broja, who has been one of the best young talents in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners are set to lose both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah for nothing in the summer. They will need to bring in at least two new centre-forwards and although Broja may not be ready to be Arsenal’s first-choice number nine, he would be a fine backup option for the Gunners’ young side.

However, if Chelsea, who are currently third in the league table, are adamant to include a buy-back clause in the deal, it really doesn’t make any sense for Arsenal to sign Broja in the summer as the Blues will sign him straight back once he develops into a top player in a few years time.
