I saw £25m Tottenham player prove he can still be a key player for Ange Postecoglou against Crystal Palace

There’s no doubt that three points was incredibly important for both Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou against Crystal Palace yesterday.

The Spurs players went into the game knowing Postecoglou would want to see a big improvement on the loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers a few weeks ago.

And although Tottenham were frustrated for large periods of the game, their overall display was a lot better.

Moreover, once the likes of Timo Werner and Son Heung-min found their finishing boots, Spurs eventually got their deserved reward.

And to that end, there were several improved performances in a Tottenham shirt, but perhaps none more so than Yves Bissouma.

Despite starting the season quite brilliantly under Postecoglou, Bissouma has suffered a lull of late.

Admittedly, his early season momentum was completely disrupted by his suspensions and then his trip to AFCON.

But having slightly struggled in February, Postecoglou saw Bissouma back to his best for Tottenham against Palace.

Bissouma was once again imperious in the middle, and looked a lot more like the driving force Spurs need him to be.

The Mali international had a huge impact on the game, and perhaps made up for another sub par showing from Rodrigo Bentancur alongside him.

Competition for places is rife in North London right now, especially when you consider that Pape Matar Sarr had both Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sat on the bench next to him yesterday.

But perhaps Bissouma’s display against Palace yesterday cemented his permanent position in Postecoglou’s Tottenham team, if it was ever in doubt.

Despite his indifferent form, it’s clear that the will be crucial for his Spurs manager moving forwards, a profile he probably needs in any duo he chooses.

And if Tottenham are going to keep pace with Aston Villa in the race for fourth, they will need Bissouma to be at his consistent best once again.

All that being said, Alan Shearer was left slightly unconvinced by one Spurs player yesterday.
