‘I love watching him play’… Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer amazed by ‘incredible’ Newcastle player after win

Alan Shearer has named the Newcastle United player he thought was sensational against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, while Gary Lineker also praised him.

Newcastle have now won four of their last six games in all competitions. But once again, Eddie Howe’s side did not make life easy for their supporters, as they edged a five-goal thriller at the City Ground.

Bruno Guimaraes scored two of the visitors’ goals, including the winner midway through the second-half. But it is his finish for the first which is going to be talked about for a long time to come.

The Brazilian snuck in at the back post to get onto a superb Kieran Trippier cross. Bruno still had plenty to do, but he managed to volley the ball home into the far corner. It was the kind of finish that most neutrals would have had little choice but to applaud.

The 26-year-old has now been directly involved in five goals in his last eight Premier League appearances.

And speaking to , both Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker lauded the former Lyon star.

“I thought Bruno Guimaraes was sensational,” Shearer said.

“I love watching him play,” Lineker replied.

“More advanced role as well. He played more forward. But what about his finish? You know from the ball in from Trippier from the set-piece. The volley, it’s one of the most difficult things to do, that, when the ball’s coming from where it is. And to hit it with that first foot, with your right foot to do as he did, was an incredible finish,” Shearer added.

Magpies must be preparing for fight to keep midfielder

Newcastle will surely be braced for a battle to keep Bruno in the summer transfer window. He continues to go from strength to strength at St James’ Park.

The Magpies may have to sell players to be able to fund moves for future signings. And Bruno is someone who can command a marquee fee.

Bruno’s contract reportedly includes a release clause of around £105 million. And if clubs get a sense that Newcastle may have to be open to selling some of their star players, they are surely going to test their resolve to keep Bruno on Tyneside.

It would certainly be massive for Newcastle if they went into next season with Bruno still in their ranks.
