Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate has named Mamadou Sakho as the one player he would’ve loved to play alongside at Anfield.

The now 31-year-old joined the Reds for £14.5 million from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 (). He played 80 times for Liverpool in all competitions before Jurgen Klopp decided to loan him to Crystal Palace in January 2017. The Eagles signed him on a permanent deal that summer for £26 million, giving the Merseysiders a nice little profit ().

Sakho is now playing his football in France at Montpellier. He’s a forgotten man to many Liverpool fans, but Reds new boy Konate absolutely loves him.

Here’s what the 22-year-old said about his older compatriot…

Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate: I love Mamadou Sakho

Asked to pick one Liverpool player past or present he would’ve liked to play alongside, Konate told : “I think Mamadou Sakho. I love this guy, I love his life.

“I’ve never seen him, but he played for the same club as me in Paris.

“For me and for other French young players, he’s like our big brother. I choose him.”

Sakho was a brilliant defender in his own right. He was absolutely incredible for PSG during his time there and although he didn’t quite show Premier League fans the best version of himself, he seems to have inspired many young players.

Konate clearly idolises Sakho and the young Frenchman could become a much better centre-half than his compatriot ever was. He has everything in his locker that a defender needs, and if he can fulfil his massive potential, he will become one of the best in the world.

Klopp has been cautious with Konate so far this season. The young French defender has only played six games in all competitions, but he’ll surely play more in the coming weeks and months as he becomes accustomed to the intensity of the Premier League.
