‘I know’: Alasdair Gold shares the addition Spurs reportedly wanted to make in January window

Tottenham Hotspur wanted to bring in a new centre-back during the January transfer window, according to Alasdair Gold.

In addition, Jose Mourinho regularly played down the chances of Tottenham bringing in new signings last month.

However, football.london’s Gold says Spurs would have liked to bolster their defensive ranks, but ultimately there were too many factors in play.

“I know that Spurs would have liked to have brought in a centre-back if possible,” he said on his YouTube .

“But it was so dependent on so many other things happening, with various other people going, and that obviously didn’t happen.”

Spurs have had their fair share of defensive issues at the back this season, both in the centre and on the flanks.

Mourinho was eager to bring in a new centre-back in the summer, and ended up signing Joe Rodon from Swansea.

Although the Welshman has done well, he’s more of a long-term prospect for Spurs, while their main defenders have often flattered to deceive.

Those issues, along with Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty’s struggles on the right, mean Mourinho has a lot of hard work to do to once again shore up his back line.
