‘I know’: 29-y/o claims Conte let one of the ‘best players in the world’ leave Tottenham in January

Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli has lauded Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso as one of the best players in the world after joining the La Liga side on loan.

, the Argentine international hailed the January signing from north London, with the duo playing alongside each other for the South American nation over the years.

Lo Celso was allowed to leave Tottenham for Villarreal in January after falling out of favour with Antonio Conte, with the former Real Betis star one of four players to leave Spurs in the final days of the transfer window.

Fellow midfielders Tanguy Ndombele and Bryan Gil left on loan, whilst Dele Alli was allowed to leave Tottenham for good in a permanent move to Everton as Spurs signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus.

Indeed, Conte has his work cut out with Tottenham, with his side losing 3-2 to Southampton last night. Yet according to Villarreal star Rulli, the north London side have one of the best players in the world in Lo Celso.

The 29-year-old said: “He gives us an option as a team. He improves us, and I won’t be surprising many by saying that he is one of the best players in the world. I know him well as a player and as a person, so I hope he does very well.”

Lo Celso might not be one of the world’s best players, despite Rulli’s high praise for his fellow countryman, but the Argentine does have a golden opportunity to impress Conte on his loan spell with Villarreal.

The midfielder has the talent to be a special player, and with the Yellow Submarine, Lo Celso has a chance to impress both his manager back in England as well as Tottenham supporters who have already written off his chances with the north London club.
