‘I heard’: Jung Ho-yeon speaks about rumours that Celtic are interested in signing him
Gwangju FC midfielder, Jeong Ho-yeon, has spoken out on the speculation linking the 23-year-old to a move to Celtic.
first broke the news of the transfer links after they claimed that Celtic were ‘monitoring’ the K League defensive midfielder.
But since then, nothing concrete about any potential move has emerged. The South Korean Olympic midfielder was asked about the recent speculation after his team’s 1-0 win over Ulsan and he said he has only heard what his agent has told him
Ho-yeon said [], “I know that such stories are coming out around me. In fact, there has never been a specific or direct contact so far.
“I heard the same story from my team and agent. I just want to be faithful to my team in every moment.”
Why has Jung Ho-yeon attracted Celtic’s interest?
Honestly, I don’t know why. The first question I would be asking is why is Celtic looking at another defensive midfielder when they already have three at the club struggling to get game time?
Odin Thiago Holm, Hyeokkyu Kwon and Tomoki Iwata are all behind Celtic captain, Callum McGregor in the pecking order.

With all three struggling to get a look-in, it makes no sense for Celtic to be looking at another player to come in for a position where the club are already bloated.
Looking at it objectively, this seems like another project signing. At 23, he clearly has the potential to develop and has been capped at u23 level by South Korea.
Ho-yeon also has a K League 2 medal to his name and won the Asian Games after the Koreans defeated Japan u23’s 2-1 on the 7th of October. []
Personally, I believe Celtic needs to concentrate on figuring out a way of getting current players at the club some football instead of focusing on another target for the same position.
