AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has delivered his verdict on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The American knows the current Gunners manager really well having played a part in signing him as a player all the way back in 2011. He even considered Arteta as an option to replace Arsene Wenger when the legendary Frenchman left the club in 2018.

Gazidis decided to go with Unai Emery then, but he has now claimed that he has never had a doubt about Arteta’s quality as a manager.

He also explained why the Spaniard wasn’t given the job in 2018.

Ivan Gazidis: Arsenal boss Arteta is a special person

Gazidis, who has had a difficult time with respect to his health, is on his way to full recovery. He is back at AC Milan now and here’s what he said about the Gunners.

Asked about his opinion on Arteta, Gazidis told : “He’s a special person, a natural leader. He has a clarity in the way he communicates. I have no doubt about Mikel’s abilities as a coach and never have.”

Quizzed if the Spaniard was in contention for the job when Wenger left in 2018, he said: “The issue for Mikel was just the timing because he is on such a fast track.”

TBR View:

Everyone who has worked with Arteta only has positive things to say about him. The Spaniard is viewed by many as one of the most exciting young managers around, but we live in a world where results matter more than reputation.

Arsenal started this season terribly. They lost each of their first three games in the Premier League, conceding nine goals in the process. Arteta turned it around by going on a 10-game unbeaten run, but the Gunners are facing problems yet again.

The North Londoners have lost three of their last four games in the league. They’ve conceded nine goals in those four fixtures, which is an awful record.

The pressure is back on Arteta and he has to prove his doubters wrong yet again. If Arsenal miss out on European football this season, it will be very difficult to justify keeping the Spaniard around.
