‘I feel sorry for him’: Thomas Tuchel says he will speak to ‘important’ Arsenal star

Thomas Tuchel has told Thursday’s press conference – – that he will reach out to Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners star was stripped of his captaincy this week.

Aubameyang, 32, was relieved of his captaincy duties this week after returning late to the club’s training ground. Mikel Arteta had agreed to hand Aubameyang some time off, to visit his Mother.

However, Aubameyang returned late – a breach of discipline in the eyes of the Arsenal gaffer. Of course, it is not the first time Aubameyang has flouted rules in place – benched in the North London derby last season.

That is, after the Gabon skipper had turned up late for the team coach ahead of the clash. Tuchel, of course, managed Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund for two years between 2015 and 2017.

Asked about the Arsenal forward’s situation, Chelsea boss Tuchel gave his verdict. He said that he feels sorry for Aubameyang, stating that he will reach out to him. But he is aware that he is not involved.

“I will at some point [reach out to him]. He was a very important player for me and we had a very close relationship. I feel sorry for him. This is not where he should be with his kind of quality and positive character. But I am not involved.”

Tuchel on Aubameyang: Arteta right to remove Arsenal captaincy?

So, the question is, has Arteta been harsh to remove Aubameyang captaincy? Or is it about time that, after numerous lapses of discipline, that the Gunners change the man who wears the armband?

Many would argue that the ex-Dortmund man was the wrong choice in the first place. Many have suggested that he is not the kind of character that has the necessary leadership skills to wear the armband.

Arteta needed to show leadership as manager and it was probably time for Aubameyang’s spell as captain. Now, Arsenal must find a replacement – with Kieran Tierney, Aaron Ramsdale and others said to be in line.
