‘I feel good’: £3.5m-rated Rangers rock shoots down speculation over summer PL move
Rangers defender Filip Helander has responded to recent rumours linking him with a move away from the Ibrox for the Premier League.
, the 27-year-old centre-back admitted that he is focussed on playing for Rangers, with Helander having two years remaining on his current deal with the newly-crowned Scottish champions having played 29 games in all competitions for Steven Gerrard’s side this campaign.
Helander has in recent weeks been reported with a transfer to the Premier League, with that both Aston Villa and Leicester City are interested in the former Bologna defender following his impressive performances with Rangers this season, but when asked about a move, Helander was quick to shoot down any speculation.
The 27-year-old centre-back said: “It’s just speculation. I feel good here and I have two years left on my contract here. That’s really the only thing to think about. I want to continue to perform well at Rangers and then hope to be able to join the European Championship [squad] this summer. This is where my focus lies.”
Signed from Bologna in the summer of 2019 for a reported transfer fee of £3.5m , Helander has been a vital part of Gerrard’s rebuild of Rangers since arriving in Glasgow, with the 15-capped Swedish international playing 47 games across two seasons with the Gers.
Alongside his impressive performances this season, with Helander keeping 15 clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership, it is an encouraging sign for Rangers supporters that he is committed to staying with the club despite reported interest from two Premier League sides who are performing well this year.
With UEFA Champions League football to play for next season, as well, Helander has even more reason to remain in Glasgow for the remainder of his current contract, especially as this year has shown that he is a first-choice centre-back in Gerrard’s Rangers team.
