‘I fancy’: Chris Sutton has now shared who he thinks will win the Championship – Leeds or Leicester

All of a sudden, there is a title race on in the Championship.

Leeds United beat Leicester City 3-1 on Friday night to close the gap between the two sides to just six points with 12 games to go.

Leeds and Leicester will both be focused solely on promotion, but the Championship title would also be a nice prize come the end of the season.

Speaking on , Chris Sutton has been discussing how the Championship table is shaping up, and he says that after Friday’s result, he fancies Leeds to go on and win the league ahead of Leicester.

Chris Sutton backs Leeds to win the league

The pundit shared his verdict on the second-tier title race.

“Do you think Leeds and Leicester will be the two that go up?” Sutton was asked.

“It looks that way. I fancy Leeds to win it. You know what it’s like now, every week this is what we do,” Sutton said.

Momentum

Leeds aren’t favourites to win the league by any stretch of the imagination, but it has to be said that the momentum is with them right now.

Indeed, the Whites have won nine games on the spin, and with Leicester losing their last two matches, that gap is closing at a rapid rate.

Of course, it will be tough for Leeds to keep up this level of form, while Leicester should get back on track sooner rather than later, but with the way things are going right now, winning the league is not out of the question for Leeds.

The most important thing is still promotion though, and with Ipswich and Southampton breathing down Leeds’ neck, that has to be their main focus rather than chasing Leicester in hopes of winning the league.
