Samir Nasri has had his say on William Saliba being sent out on loan after loan by Arsenal despite having the quality to play for them.

The young French defender, signed by Unai Emery for ÂŁ27 million in July 2019 (), was viewed by many as someone who would hit the ground running at Arsenal. However, he is yet to play a competitive game for the Gunners.

After a six-month spell at Nice in the second half of last season, Saliba was shipped out on loan to Marseille in the summer. He has been absolutely incredible for them this term, especially at the weekend against Paris Saint-Germain.

Many Arsenal fans are frustrated about the fact that Arteta is yet to give him a chance. Nasri has added fuel to the fire by claiming that he doesn’t understand why his young compatriot isn’t at the Emirates.

Samir Nasri: I don’t understand why William Saliba is not at Arsenal

The now-retired Frenchman, who spent three years at Arsenal before his infamous switch to Manchester City, spoke to this week about his thoughts on Saliba.

He said: “He (Saliba) has all the qualities to play in the Premier League. He’s well built, quick and a good passer of the ball too.

“I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be in Arsenal’s team./p>

Arteta’s treatment of Saliba has divided the Arsenal fan base over the last year. Many believe that the young Frenchman should’ve been given a proper chance, but the Gunners boss was adamant that he wasn’t ready.

The Arsenal board agreed with Arteta and sent Saliba out on loan. He has impressed for Marseille over the last few weeks, but there are areas in his game that need a lot of improvement before he can become a regular in the Premier League.

With Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes available at Arsenal, keeping Saliba around made very little sense. He was sent out on loan to a top club as a result, and he is playing almost every game there.

That is brilliant for his development, and he will surely return to the Emirates a much better defender.
