‘I do wonder’: Journalist thinks Tottenham may well offer new contract to ‘amazing’ player soon
Ben Davies could be in line for a new Tottenham contract in the coming months after his resurgence under Antonio Conte.
Conte said last month that Davies had an ‘amazing’ season under him, on the left of his central defensive back three.
That said, it has been reported that the Italian is looking for an upgrade on the Welshman, who was outstanding as his nation qualified for the World Cup on Sunday, beating Ukraine 1-0.
Journalist Alasdair Gold has said on that while Spurs do need a new player in that role, he would be competition to drive Davies on and the defender could earn a new deal.

Davies could be in line for new Tottenham contract
Gold said: “They do need a new left-footed centre-back to offer competition for Ben Davies.
“But he played very, very well for Wales (against Ukraine).
“I do wonder whether Davies might end up with a new contract in the not too distant future as well.
“He’s only got two years left and is probably playing the best football of his career, Ben Davies. He needs competition so they both drive each other up.”

Davies is 29 now, so with two years left on his deal, the next one he signs would likely be the last big contract of his career.
There is no rush from a Spurs perspective, and it would probably be worthwhile waiting to see how well Davies compares to whoever the new defender in his position is before sealing a new deal.
But there is no doubt he has been reinvented under Conte, having apparently spoken out against his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo.
