‘I didn’t like that’… Chris Sutton annoyed after what he’s heard Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta say now
Chris Sutton was left annoyed after hearing what Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said about VAR over the weekend.
Sutton has been speaking on the and admitted he didn’t like Arteta’s comments after Arsenal beat Burnley 3-1 on Saturday.
Of course, Arteta was left furious after the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United the weekend before following Anthony Gordon’s controversial winner.
The Spaniard labelled the decision to award the goal an ‘’ but was keen to praise the VAR officials after the win over Burnley.
He said: “You have to ask me about VAR — it was perfect. Beautiful, the referee and VAR were top. Let’s have some humour as well and move forward.” as quoted by .
But Chris Sutton wasn’t impressed with Arteta’s post-match comments and feels the Arsenal boss was being ‘patronising’.
Sutton annoyed after Arteta’s latest VAR comments
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off, presenter Ian Ladyman took issue with Arteta attempting to enjoy some ‘humour’ on the VAR situation.
He said: “I saw Mikel Arteta after the Arsenal game on try and make a joke out of what he’d done on VAR the previous week, saying let’s have some humour about it.
“That was his quote. I’m sorry Mikel but what you did last week wasn’t funny.
“Don’t come now after you have had a straightforward 3-1 home win against Burnley, don’t become the nice let’s make a joke about it, because the damage has already been done.”
And Sutton added: “I didn’t like that. It was patronising wasn’t it? Condescending.”
Arteta praised the VAR officials after the win over Burnley as he felt they made the correct decision to send off Fabio Vieira late in the game.
The Arsenal boss came under fire after his comments on officiating the week before, with the Gunners also backing their manager by releasing a the day after.
