‘I didn’t know’: Connor Goldson shares one thing he didn’t realise when he joined Rangers

Glasgow Rangers defender Connor Goldson has admitted that he didn’t realise just how far behind the club was when he joined the Ibrox outfit.

The 28-year-old joined Rangers in June 2018, becoming Steven Gerrard’s sixth signing of the summer, and to date, he has played 151 games in light blue.

He has clocked up 150 appearances for the club in a quicker timescale – 965 days – than any player in Ibrox history.

Goldson has been especially instrumental this season, starting every one of Rangers’ 45 games in all competitions in what has been an outstanding campaign so far.

On Sunday, Rangers were crowned Scottish Premiership champions, and Goldson admits that he didn’t think it would take as little as three years since his arrival to get back to the top.

“Did I think it would be three years? Probably not,” he is quoted by the as saying.

“I didn’t know how far behind Rangers were at the time. I didn’t realise that until I came up here and played that first season and then, yeah, you do have doubts.

“At the same time we’ve worked our socks off. Recruitment has been brilliant. You look at the club I’m in today, it’s 100 times better than the club I joined.

“That’s not just the playing squad, it’s around the place.”

It’s been a long, hard road for Rangers through the divisions and then in the Premiership, but they’re finally back at the top.

And it was great to see Goldson, who has been there for a sizeable part of that journey and has worked so hard, front and centre of the celebrations.
