‘I can kind of see that in him’: Gold thinks 25-year-old Spurs player will thrive in new role under Conte
Alasdair Gold believes Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon can successfully become a wing-back under Antonio Conte.
The Spurs boss is known for placing considerable attacking emphasis on his wing-backs.
Reguilon, a left-back by trade, joined Tottenham in 2020 and has been a regular on the left side of defence.

The 25-year-old began the season at left-back under Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, he’s now having to adapt as a wing-back under Conte.
Reguilon was a regular in the Italian’s starting XI but he spent some time on the sidelines due to covid recently.
In that time, Ryan Sessegnon has stepped up and the 21-year-old became first-choice at left wing-back.
However, he now faces some time on the sidelines after going off injured after the first half against Everton.
“Bad news about Ryan Sessegnon, he had a scan and he has a muscular problem,” Conte .
“Maybe we’ll see him after the international break.”
“He’s got the pace and the technique”
Reguilon has delivered some mixed performances at left wing-back.
On some occasions, he has struggled to make the required attacking impact.
However, Reguilon did get on the scoresheet in the 5-0 win over Everton.
And Gold believes the Spaniard has the right traits to adapt to the position.
“It’s something Reguilon needs to do more of, the goalscoring,” he said on his .

“That is his second goal of the season, which is not a lot, and he’s only got three assists.
“Early December was his last assist. For a wing-back, that’s not great.
“The thing with Reguilon, bit like Emerson, is that he’s always been a natural full-back.
“He’s not been trained to be a wing-back, it’s a slightly different role.
“But what I would say with Reguilon, I think he’s got the pace and the technique to be a really good one, he just has to adapt to it.
“There’s a couple of decision-making issues I think, when he gets into the box we’ve seen him get there and fluff chances or fluff the final ball.
“But I think he can do it, I do, I can kind of see that in him and that’ll be a huge confidence boost.”
