‘I am’: Ally McCoist says he’s digging out Aston Villa player live on air, he must start doing more

Ally McCoist has insisted that Aston Villa attacker Philippe Coutinho needs to start doing more for his side.

ꦕCoutinho joined Aston Villa on a six-month loan deal in January, and was considered one of the coups of the window.

The 30-year-old scored five goals and provided three assists for Steven Gerrard’s side.

🌼However, he’s failed to reach the same levels this season, and has failed to register a single goal or assist.

He started last night against Nottingham Forest but failed to make an impact.

🦋Jamie Carragher said that he looked like a ‘five-a-side player’ at the City Ground.

Coutinho is still capable of brilliant performances, ✱as he proved against Southampton before the international break.

﷽However, Coutinho needs to start doing more on a more consistent basis for his struggling Villa side.

McCoist: Sounds like I’m digging Coutinho out

🐻 “I also think, he (Gerrard) needs more from his attack-minded players in his team.

ꦕ“I’m a little bit disappointed in the way they’re playing.

🍎“I look at the players, and I would expect to see more from them in forward areas.

🍃“And it probably sounds like I’m digging Coutinho out a little bit, and I am, I think a player of his ability should be getting on the ball more and should be creating a little bit more.

🌃“I wouldn’t say Steven and Aston Villa are putting all of their eggs in one basket with Coutinho, but I think they should be getting more from him in forward areas.”

⛦Coutinho isn’t on his own in struggling in forward areas for Villa this season.

Leon Bailey, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins♉ are the only players with more than one goal contribution.

𒈔Coutinho was the only attacker Gerrard substituted last night, bringing on two strikers to try and make the breakthrough.

In the end, it was only a long-range effort from Ashley Young꧅ that earned Villa a point against the team with the worst defensive record in the league.

꧙Coutinho will need to start doing more if he wants to keep his place in Gerrard’s team and doesn’t want to be dragged into a relegation battle.
