‘I actually tried’… Wayne Rooney says he tried to sign £16m Crystal Palace player when he was at Derby
Wayne Rooney’s managerial career hasn’t quite gone to plan.
The former England captain was relegated in trying circumstances at De𓃲rby County before heading to MLS, while his return to English football with Birmingham City earlier this year really didn’t go to plan.
Rooney doesn’t appear to be the greatest tactician of his genera꧋tion, but what he does have is an in💦credible ability to identify talent.
Indeed, Rooney knows a good player when he sees one, and speaking to Bleacher Report on , the gaffer has now a👍dmitted th🌞at he actually tried to sign Eberechi Eze when he was at Derby County in a player/coach role.

Wayne Rooney tried to sign Eberechi Eze for Derby
Rooney spoke about the man.
“There’s been so many over the past few years top players coming out of the Championship. I remember that I actually tried to sign Eze when I was at Derby as a player, he ran past me and I said to him ‘I need to speak to you at the 🐲end of the game’,” Rooney said.
Could’ve changed everything
Derby had some serious 𒅌struggles around this time due to their financial situation, struggles that are still ongoing today, but perhaps things could’ve changed if they’𝔍d managed to land Eze.
Not only would the midfielder have been able to propel the💎m up the league at the time, he also would’ve been a massively sellable asset who could’ve helped them out of their financial hole at tha🦂t point in time.
Unfortunately, Rooney was unable to broker a deal that would’ve seen Eze head to Pride Park, and the Rams’ eventual demise was ult🍌imately unavoidable.
