‘Huge qualities’: Arsene Wenger blown away by 30-year-old player Tottenham reportedly want to sign
Arsene Wenger has lavished praise on reported Tottenham target Emi Martinez, who is set to play in Sunday’s World Cup final.
Martinez’s Argentina will face France in the biggest game on earth, where his opposite number will be Spurs number one Hugo Lloris.
Journalist Dean Jones has told that Spurs are eyeing a possible move for Martinez to replace Lloris in the summer.
He said: “I’m pretty sure they’re also looking at Emi Martinez and whether he might consider a move at the end of the season.”

Wenger on Martinez
Martinez of course has Arsenal connections and was signed for the club during Wenger’s reign in charge, before Mikel Arteta sold him to Villa in
As per the Mirror, Wenger said of Martinez: “I am very happy for him. We were aware of his huge qualities. He was determined and had a desire to learn and a big passion for the game.
“Sometimes he went out on loan and didn’t even play. But it didn’t stop his belief and motivation. When I see him now play knowing what he went through I admire even more his achievement.
“Well done Emi, we are proud of you.”
Martinez’s Arsenal connections may make a potential switch to Spurs difficult, but he may also be motivated to show his old club what they are missing.
The goalkeeper seems to love life at Villa but if he wins the World Cup, he will likely be even more driven to be playing Champions League football.
At 30, he will want to be playing those big games as often as possible, but of course Villa are ambitious under new manager Unai Emery.
