Report: Aitor Karanka wants talks with Huddersfield Town over managerial vacancy

Former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka is keen to discuss the managerial vacancy at Huddersfield Town,

The Spaniard has been out of work since leaving the City Ground in January after just over a year in charge.

He had led Forest to within two points of the Championship play-offs but departed after some issues with the hierarchy.

His time at Boro was extremely successful. He oversaw automatic promotion into the Premier League and was in charge for half of their season in the top-flight.

Huddersfield are on the lookout for a new manager after parting with German Jan Siewert.

The 37-year-old was dismissed after failing to win any of their first three league games this season. His team were also dumped out of the EFL Cup by Lincoln City of League One.

Mark Hudson is in caretaker charge of the West Yorkshire-based club. He would like the position permanently; Gary Rowett and John Eustace are also under consideration by the club.

TBR Verdict – Karanka the standout candidate

The former Forest and Boro boss would be a quality appointment by the Terriers.

Huddersfield needs a manager to come in and put smiles back on faces. They were relegated last season and have started in miserable fashion this time around.

Karanka had a similar remit at Forest and fans there adored him. He got them playing a decent style of football and propelled them up the division.

Whoever is appointed this time around needs to have experience. That will probably rule Hudson out on this occasion, whilst Eustace would be an outside bet.

Rowett has the experience of the league but Karanka has been there and succeeded in getting a team out of the division.

On that basis alone, Huddersfield would be foolish not to at least speak with the Spaniard.
