Huddersfield ready to battle Sheffield United for young Everton midfielder Dowell
Sheffield United and Huddersfield are ready to go toe to toe over classy Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell,
Dowell spent the second half of 2018/19 on loan with Chris Wilder’s promoted Blades and the says that they are ‘keen’ to re-sign the English prospect this summer.
But Huddersfield are looking to reshape their squad after their abject relegation from the Premier League and are weighing up a move.
That means that a Yorkshire transfer tussle could be on the cards if Marco Silva decides to let go a player who has fantastic ability but has found gametime hard to come by at Goodison Park.
Dowell will form part of Aidy Boothroyd’s England Under 21 squad heading to Italy for next month’s European Championship, with the huge talent in the ranks prompting many to feel the Young Lions can scoop the crown.
But he is facing the same issue to many of his peers in that top flight gametime is so difficult to come by, even at a club like Everton with a proud history of giving young players their head.
That’s why a return to Bramall Lane might appeal – the prospect of regular Premier League football – but the goal for Dowell must be becoming Gylfi Sigurdsson’s understudy, with a view to taking the reigns as the former Swansea man ages.
