Huddersfield boss blown away by performance of Arsenal loanee Emile Smith Rowe
Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley has seemingly run out of superlatives to describe Arsenal loanee, Emile Smith Rowe.
The 19-year-old was mesmerising during a 2-1 win over Bristol City last night and Cowley raved about the youngster to afterwards.
Smith Rowe set up the first goal and then won the Terries a penalty with Karlan Grant doubling their advantage from the spot.
The teenager was unplayable at times against the play-off hopefuls, running them ragged with some energetic play.
Cowley couldn’t hide his delight afterwards and thinks Smith Rowe is already a Premier League player.
“Emile Smith Rowe is just a really lovely player, isn’t he?
“He looked a top player, didn’t he. He has that ability to find space; he could find space in a telephone box; he speeds the play up for you and draws and commits and I think it would have been brilliant if he had scored.
“To me, he is a Premier League player so I demand Premier League standards from him – in training and in games. It was a really good performance.”
It did come as a bit of a surprise when Mikel Arteta chose to loan out the academy prospect.
The youngster had featured twice in the Premier League this season during Freddie Ljungberg’s spell in charge and had been called upon in the Carabao Cup win over Forest too.
Development
A loan to the Championship is no bad thing though and regular football should put him in a good place to challenge for a place next season.
Smith Rowe has looked decent in central midfield under Cowley and Huddersfield are benefitting from having him around.
Last night’s victory was massive for the Terriers who had slipped perilously close to the relegation zone.
Arsenal will be delighted with his progress and they will surely hope he can continue shining between now and the end of the season.
