How Twitter reacted as Arsenal striker Lucas Perez’s return to Deportivo La Coruna was announced
After a completely tumultuous time in north London since arriving from La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruna last summer, Lucas Perez’s return to Spain has been announced today on a season-long loan.
The 28-year-old was signed by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in a deal last year, with a view to becoming a key striker at the Emirates, but his first-team opportunities have been limited.
It was thought – as reported by the – that Arsenal were hoping to off-load the Spanish striker on a permanent basis, but their £13.8 million valuation was deemed too much for Deportivo, and instead Perez has been allowed to join on-loan.
Speculation coming from the earlier this morning believed that Premier League sides Newcastle and Everton were also considering a move for Perez, but he has favoured a return home.
A statement on Arsenal’s read:
“Lucas returns to Deportivo, where he enjoyed a prolific campaign in 2015/16, equalling a club record for goals scored in successive games. Among the highlights of Lucas’s time with us last season are his wonderful volley away to Bournemouth in January and his hat-trick in our Champions’ League victory over Basel.
“We all wish Lucas well for his time with Deportivo this coming season.”
Perez was awarded just 11 Premier League appearances last season – and only two starts – and the fact that Alexandre Lacazette was given his number nine jersey upon his arrival proved to be the final straw.
Arsenal took to social media to announce the Spaniard’s exit…
Good luck at this season,

And it’s fair to say Arsenal supporters felt sorry for Perez after his spell…
The manner in which Wenger treated Lucas Perez says all about Wenger.

I don't understand why bought Joel Campbell or Lucas Perez. Both very good players hardly given a chance by the club.

With some believing that there’s still room for him at the Emirates…
