How the Leicester players rated in their 1-0 win over Copenhagen

A 1-0 win for Leicester saw them make it maximum points from their Champions League games this season, now looking impressively sure to make the knockout-stages.

Riyad Mahrez got the only goal of the game, showing more desire than his marker to get to the ball first following a knock-down from Islam Slimani.

It was a game which allowed the front three of Mahrez, Slimani and Jamie Vardy to show they were beginning to connect, while it was also a good team performance to keep a well-needed clean sheet and allow for the excellent European form to keep going.

Here’s how the Foxes rated against FC Copenhagen:

Kasper Schmeichel – 8/10

Didn’t really need to do much for the whole game, but then came up with a match-winning save in stoppage time to keep the 1-0 score-line. Diving low to his right, he was worth a high mark just for that save alone. An excellent effort by the Dane playing against a team from his home country.

Danny Simpson – 6/10

Fairly compact defensively, and offered many options with his forward runs, but was beaten many times by the runs of the Copenhagen attackers.

Wes Morgan – 6/10

Capable on the ball, and contributed to a good clean-sheet, but both him and Huth have to sort out the set-pieces problems.

Robert Huth – 6/10

Again, a good clean-sheet, but did give the ball away on occasions and needs help with set-pieces. Both centre-backs needed their keeper to make a world-class save in stoppage time as they lost a man in the box.

Christian Fuchs – 6/10

As with all the defenders, there was both positives and negatives. Overall, Fuchs was fairly consistent and will celebrate a clean-sheet.

Andy King – 7/10

Surprise starter, and was exceptional at intercepting and mopping-up opportunities. Could be a candidate to start in the league after this showing.

Danny Drinkwater – 6/10

Another player who played well in getting the points. Offered many good passes out wide, or to Vardy and will continue to do so all season.

Marc Albrighton – 6/10

Offered cross after cross, and should have had an assist if Slimani wasn’t wrongly ruled off-side. Came inside on occasions and looked sharp.

Riyad Mahrez – 8/10

Showed real desire to score the winning goal, and looked more like the threat he was last season. Combined brilliantly with the other attackers and received a standing ovation. Man of the match.

Jamie Vardy – 7/10

His willing runs were on show all game, and his desire to shoot forced issues for defenders and goal-keeper, albeit if he sometimes over-looked a pass in favour of a shot. He was a real menace, and will cause problems to the bigger teams in Europe on the counter-attack.

Islam Slimani – 7/10

Knocked down an assist and should have scored himself, Slimani looked impressive as an out-and-out striker for the side. A few more goals and he will begin to look like the real deal.
