How optimistic Newcastle feel about signing Benjamin Sesko as bid made amid Manchester United talks

TBR Football can exclusively confirm how optimistic Newcastle United feel about signing Benjamin Sesko with the bid they have just made.

Newcastle have been in pursuit of Benjamin Sesko this summer and, with Alexander Isak being chased by Liverpool, the Magpies’ need for attacking reinforcements has become even bigger.

However, Manchester United are also in the picture for Sesko, who has made a real name for himself at RB Leipzig in recent years.

Newcastle United optimistic of signing Benjamin Sesko as RB Leipzig valuation matched

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Newcastle have now made a formal bid for Sesko, and they’re optimistic about succeeding.

It is €75million plus €5million (£65.5million plus £4.3million), and sources suggest this is around Leipzig’s asking price, a valuation they have relayed to Newcastle and Man United this week.

We understand that Newcastle have been pushing hard for Sesko since we revealed last month that Eddie Howe instructed the club’s recruitment team to push on for him.

Man United, for their part, are still pushing for Sesko, having been in talks all week.

We also understand Leipzig have asked about Rasmus Hojlund, but it is understood that he is not open to the move at this point.

The point Newcastle are seemingly trying to make with Benjamin Sesko bid

Bailey understands that, aside from obviously trying to sign Sesko, Newcastle are looking to make a point with the bid.

Namely, that the Magpies are putting their money where their mouth is and saying they want Sesko now.

“As we revealed, both Manchester United and Newcastle have held talks in the past week and both have put what they believe compelling cases to the player,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.

“Man United internally believed they held sway, but they knew Newcastle were very much in the battle.

“Personal terms are not an issue for either club – it is about persuading the player.

“Now Newcastle have made the bid and we understand it is around the figures that Leipzig want.

“Newcastle are pushing for this – as we know, this is a clear indication they are preparing for Alexander Isak’s exit, which they are anticipating.

“Newcastle are pushing hard now – as they are not sure Man United have the resources to match them until they make player sales, will Leipzig and Sesko wait around?

“Perhaps not, so Newcastle are saying ‘we are putting our money where our mouths are and showing we want this now.'”
