Arsenal are about to sell a player who some people at the club really wanted to keep

Some officials at Arsenal reportedly want to keep a player at the club who is now set to leave on a permanent deal.

The Gunners last night officially kicked off pre-season with a penalty shootout win against AFC Bournemouth, with the big talking point leading up to the game being that Arsenal have finally reached total agreement to sign Riccardo Calafiori.

A transfer saga that has felt like 3,000 years in the making, the Italian defender is set to link up with the Gunners in America in the coming days to confirm his move to Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s side also working on some potential departures.

Arsenal officials torn over Emile Smith Rowe’s Fulham move

According to journalist Dean Jones, figures at Arsenal are split over the decision to sell Emile Smith Rowe, who is set to join Fulham for a joint-club fee worth £35m in the coming days.

Jones wrote: “Arsenal delighted to hold out for deal that could reach £35m on Emile Smith Rowe, as Fulham prepare to shake hands Interesting move for the player who now has a great chance to become a very significant player week in, week out. Some at Arsenal really didn’t want to lose him.”

A Hale End academy graduate who played a massive role in Mikel Arteta’s journey as Arsenal manager, Smith Rowe’s departure from Arsenal will be one that hits supporters hard given how beloved the attacking midfielder is.

However, with £35m on the table and Smith Rowe hardly featuring for Arsenal over the last two years, the deal is simply too good to turn down, with the transfer beneficial for all parties involved this summer.

Smith Rowe could become a Premier League superstar at Fulham

When fit and available, Smith Rowe have proven himself to be quite the attacker for Arsenal since breaking into the first-team, with the 23-year-old a livewire of a player who can cause real problems for defences.

And at Fulham, the England international could become a superstar in the Premier League if he can stay fit and if Marco Silva does his best to get the best out of Smith Rowe in his system for the upcoming season.

Indeed, a move is the right decision for all parties this summer, and Smith Rowe will be hopeful of forging a new career for himself in west London with Fulham, where he could thrive next season.
