How Nottingham Forest fans mocked Liverpool’s ‘incredibly flat’ atmosphere

Liverpool’s perfect start to the Premier League season has come to an end at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

The Anfield outfit’s fans were in dreamland following three wins in a row, three clean sheets, and a three-goal rout of Manchester United.

However, it was a different ensemble of Reds that triumphed at Anfield, as Forest frustrated Liverpool before striking on the counter.

Midway through the second half, Anthony Elanga found Callum Hudson-Odoi with a superb crossfield pass.

The former Chelsea man then came in off the left flank and curled a right-footed effort into the net off Alisson Becker’s far post.

Liverpool couldn’t find a way back into the game and so Forest were able to take three precious points back to the East Midlands.

Anfield is usually known as a cauldron, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges succeeded in frustrating the Liverpool fanbase, which kept the atmosphere muted.

Indeed, Lewis Steele of The Times noted how Forest fans mocked their Liverpool counterparts over this.

Forest fans mock Liverpool atmosphere with ‘ssssshhh’ noises

Steele, taking to X towards half-time, noted how Forest fans were mocking the “incredibly flat” Anfield atmosphere by making shushing noises.

Later on in the game, Steele acknowledged the Forest fans celebrating winning a late throw-in “like a goal” as the Reds edged closer to victory.

What Forest’s win over Liverpool means for both teams

The result sees Forest go up to fourth in the Premier League table, with two wins and two draws from four games.

Meanwhile, Liverpool remain second in the standings, though they are now three points behind Manchester City, who won again on Saturday.

Forest are next in action on Sunday 22 September when they take on Brighton in a 2pm kick-off.

As for Liverpool, they are in Champions League action away at AC Milan in an 8pm kick-off on Tuesday 17 September.
