How much West Ham can sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City for this summer
Journalist Florian Plettenberg has now shared how much West Ham United will have to pay to make the loan move of Kalvin Phillips permanent in the summer.
Kalvin Phillips appears to be closing in on sealing his move from Manchester City to the London Stadium. It comes with the 28-year-old really struggling for minutes since his switch to the Etihad Stadium.
West Ham have had a decent season so far and are doing well in the Premier League. However, some of their displays have been incredibly underwhelming. So it is hardly surprising that David Moyes is looking to bolster his ranks this month.
West Ham can sign Kalvin Phillips for around £40 million this summer
Gary Neville backed Phillips to be a good signing for West Ham. And in truth, it is hard to see how the Hammers lose out, certainly while the former Leeds United star is on loan.

Speaking on , Plettenberg noted that Phillips is set to undergo a medical with West Ham tomorrow, as things stand. And he shared how much West Ham are expected to have to pay to make his move permanent at the end of the season.
“We have been told yesterday that the medical is scheduled for Thursday. It’s a six-month loan deal with an option to buy. And to our information that was an exclusive detail, we have received the option to buy for Kalvin Phillips is in the range of around £40 million in the summer,” he said.
Low-risk move for David Moyes’ men
The good news for West Ham is that they do not need to worry about that fee right now. The situation would perhaps be different if they were agreeing to an obligation to buy.
Ultimately, Phillips is a brilliant player. But his move to Manchester City has really not worked on a personal level. So there is an element of risk attached.
Most of that risk disappears given it is a loan move. If he fails to rediscover the form he showed for Leeds, West Ham can allow him to return to City and do not need to pay anymore.
There is potentially a big question mark over whether he can find his form again after such a long period largely on the sidelines.
But if he does manage it, he could really prove to be an outstanding signing for the Irons.
