How much Arsenal are paying up-front to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad
Arsenal are closing in on their second major signing of the summer in the shape of Mikel Merino.
The Spanish midfielder is set to join Arsenal this summer, and this isn’t going to be a cheap deal.
Indeed, Merino has already done his Arsenal medical and an announcement is imminent.
According to AS, Merino will cost €32m (£27m).
£27m for a midfielder in the final year of his contract is quite a lot of money, but the payment structure around this deal is beneficial for Arsenal.

The €32m will be paid over the next four years with Arsenal set to pay €8m each year for the next four years.
That means that Arsenal are paying just £6.8m up front for Merino this summer, and that is very interesting.
Indeed, the fact that Arsenal aren’t spending a fortune to get Merino through the door this summer may leave them with enough money to make another signing.

Leroy Sane has been linked to Arsenal, and after agreeing to sign Merino on reasonable terms, that move could now be on the cards.
The Gunners spent plenty of time negotiating the structure of this Merino deal, hence why it has taken so long to get over the line, and now, they could benefit from that extra haggling.
Arsenal are going to push to win the Premier League this season, and if the structure of this Merino deal allows them to make another signing later this week, they will view this as a genius piece of business.
