How much Manchester United actually saved from cancelling the staff Christmas party
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a number of significant calls since arriving at Manchester United.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of INEOS purchased a 27.7% stake in the Red Devils back in February 2024 for around £1.25bn – agreeing to take control of football operations from the Glazer family.
Since then, we have seen Erik ten Hag be sacked and replaced by Ruben Amorim – while £52m was spent to sign Leny Yoro, £42m on Manuel Ugarte, £36.5m on Joshua Zirkzee, £38.5m on Matthijs de Ligt and £12.8m to bring Noussair Mazraoui to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League regardless of these changes.

While the jury remains out on many of these signings, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been criticised for making a number of financial cuts which negatively impact staff members at Manchester United.
The staff cutbacks Sir Jim Ratcliffe has enforced
The state that INEOS ditched the £100 bonus given to staff in place of a £40 Marks & Spencer voucher – while also cancelling their Christmas party.
More recently, a story from revealed that INEOS have cut the £100 Christmas bonus given to stewards, as well as scrapping the £50 prize for steward of the week at Old Trafford.

Many people have been asking just how effective these minor cutbacks would actually be in the grand scheme of things, given the fact Manchester United are a footballing giant who pay Antony £200,000-a-week, so let’s take a look.
claim that around £250,000 was saved by cancelling the Christmas party, so, not even enough to pay Marcus Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary. Ultimately, it’s all a bit grim from INEOS.
INEOS damaging goodwill within Manchester United for little in return
It had previously been difficult to work out the benefit of these cost saving exercises for INEOS – who are enraged by team leaks at Manchester United – as we did not know the exact number of staff members.
Now – however – thanks to Sam Cunningham of iNews, a damning statistic has been brought to light.
In regards to the cutbacks on steward bonuses, it would take 17,120 years for that decision to pay for the £21.4m spent to sack Ten Hag and appoint Amorim.
Evidently, there is little financial gain here for INEOS in making these harsh decisions.
As one anonymous staff member told iNews, Ratcliffe, who wants to sell Marcus Rashford, is “pinching off people at the bottom of the ladder” – well said.
In less than 12 months at Old Trafford, the 72-year-old is truly alienating people.
As the old saying goes, they know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing.
