How Manchester United players reacted on Twitter after Rooney’s record-breaker
Manchester United players were taking to social media last night after their disappointing draw against Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Despite missing out on the opportunity to gain ground on their top-four rivals after Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City all dropped points, the match against Stoke will be remembered as the historic day that Wayne Rooney broke the Manchester United goal-scoring record.
It was Rooney’s sensational free-kick in the 94th minute that salvaged a point for Jose Mourinho’s side, and with that he took his career tally at Old Trafford to the magic 250 mark – higher than anybody else to play for Manchester United before him, breaking Bobby Charlton’s 44-year record.
And it was Rooney’s record-breaking that was a common theme with the Manchester United players’ tweets last night, with the 31-year-old’s teammates praising his now legendary status at Old Trafford.
An amazing goal today from a great team mate! Congrats on your all-time record!

United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who didn’t have his finest match since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund, and midfield maestro Ander Herrera, also added their thoughts on yet another match this Premier League season that Mourinho’s side have dominated without an end product in front of goal.
THANK U for all the B-Day wishes! Today's result wasn't what we wanted, but we'll fight back for our fans! Congrats to 2⃣5⃣0⃣⚽!
