How Liverpool intend to respond after Newcastle reject their record-breaking Alexander Isak bid
TBR Football can exclusively confirm how Liverpool plan to respond after Newcastle United rejected their first bid for Alexander Isak.
Liverpool submitted an offer for Isak worth £120million, which would have broken the British record, but the Magpies turned it down.
The Reds are expected to push forward in their pursuit of Isak, with a second bid potentially in the pipeline.
However, TBR Football can confirm that there is an “issue” at present which could stall Liverpool’s chances of signing Isak quickly.

Liverpool want Alexander Isak but will not get drawn into a saga
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Liverpool do not want to get drawn into a saga of a series of bids with Alexander Isak.
When they made their initial approach a number of weeks ago, they said they would bid a British record, and they have done just that.
“Liverpool are assessing their options, they have not walked away,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football. “Alexander Isak remains their dream signing.
“However, Liverpool will not get dragged into something.
“The issue at the moment is that Newcastle still have not found their replacement and, even if they agreed terms on Isak, they would not sanction the sale until they get their new No. 9.”

Where Alexander Isak would feature among the world’s most expensive players
TBR Football sources understand that, if Liverpool get above £130million and close to £140million, then that would likely be enough for Newcastle.
Rank | Player | From | To | Price | Year |
1 | Neymar | Barcelona | Paris Saint-Germain | £200m | 2017 |
2 | Kylian Mbappé | Monaco | Paris Saint-Germain | £165.7m | 2018 |
3 | Philippe Coutinho | Liverpool | Barcelona | £146m | 2018 |
4 | Ousmane Dembele | Dortmund | Barcelona | £135.5m | 2019 |
? | Alexander Isak | Newcastle | Liverpool | £130-140m? | 2025? |
Depending on how much the final package is worth, then the Isak deal is likely to be either the fourth or fifth most expensive in the world.
A deal worth more than around £135.5million would see Ousmane Dembele’s move to Barcelona slip to fifth on the list, with Isak taking fourth.
