How Kalvin Phillips played role in latest Leeds exit

Leif Davis has left Leeds United and he might not come back. The left-back has joined Championship promotion hopefuls Bournemouth initially on loan, but the deal includes a permanent option. Davis has now spoke of how Phillips convinced him over a move to leave Leeds and join Bournemouth.

It has been a tricky last 12 months for Davis. Coming into the 2020-21 campaign, the 21-year-old had clocked up 10 senior appearances and was on the verge of making more. But only four came his way last season, two in the Premier League but only equating to a total of 31 minutes.

Leaving Leeds was best for Davis. The youngster needs game time, and not just at Under-23 level. He needs to be playing regular senior football and a move to Bournemouth is excellent for him. Under Scott Parker, he could flourish. how Phillips convinced him.

“He helped us out a lot,” . “He wants us to get back playing football and start to enjoy football again. When he spoke to Lewis [Cook], he said that Lewis told him that I would love it down here. All the lads would look after us. As soon as he said that, I couldn’t wait.”

Has Davis played his last game for Leeds, amid Phillips help?

Probably. Leeds have now ended their left-back pursuit – which has lasted for a few seasons – by bringing in Junior Firpo from Barcelona. The Dominican Republic international is seen as a bit of a coup for Leeds. So, with Firpo joining, Leeds only need cover at left-back.

They have that in Stuart Dallas and while he is now probably first choice in midfield, he can also operate as a left-sided defender. So, it is was crucial that at this stage, Davis needed to go. But with that permanent clause, has he played his last game for the club?

If he does well at Bournemouth, and with promotion in their sights, there is no reason why a permanent deal could not come next summer.
