How is Liverpool’s pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita progressing?
Liverpool’s interest in Red Bull Leipzig’s Naby Keita is well known and their pursuit has gone back and forth so far this summer.
The Guinean midfielder is thought to be one of Jurgen Klopp’s top targets, a dynamic midfielder able to contribute in attack and defence and well suited to a quick and attack-minded Red’s side.
According to Sky Germany, as referenced by and the , Leipzig have already received an offer from Liverpool of £57 million for the player, which they rejected.
However, this has not deterred the Merseyside club, who are expected to increase their offer in an effort to sign the midfielder and make him the club’s most expensive signing.
Local Merseyside paper, the , expect that an offer in the region of £65 million could be enough to prize Keita away from Leipzig, who are, of course, desperate to keep hold of their star player.
The midfielder was superb for the German side last campaign, finishing as the runner-up of the Bundesliga Player of the Season award to Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
The Guinea International has also attracted the attention of top clubs around Europe, with reports from , in Italy, suggesting that Inter Milan are eyeing a move for the midfielder. The San Siro side are said to be keen on allowing Keita to stay in Germany, but they want a deal in place for the Guinean to join after the next campaign.
However, with a charismatic German, in Klopp, at the helm and Champions League nights, providing they win a play-off fixture, back at Anfield, Liverpool is a very attractive destination for any player.
It seems almost inevitable that Keita ends up at the Merseyside club this window, with the aforementioned Echo report suggesting he is desperate to join. From his performances last season, Keita looks like the perfect addition to Klopp’s side.
With this signing still being negotiated, the Reds, according to the , have pressed ahead with the signing of Andrew Robertson from Hull City. The left-back spot was a role that needed adding to and Klopp looks as though he has done that with a very shrewd signing.
With the Scotsman expected to join soon, Liverpool could end up signing Mohamed Salah, a left-back and one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the world. If they pulled this off, the Anfield club could be looking at a very successful transfer window.
