Tottenham Hotspur currently have seven players out on loan.
Mauricio Pochettino allowed seven players, from the first-team and the academy, to spend time on loan in the lower leagues. Over the international break, Pochettino might be checking up on how his loanees are doing. Here’s a summary of how the season is going for the Spurs players.
Who’s struggling?
Summer signing Jack Clarke has struggled this season. The 18-year-old joined from Leeds United and he was sent back on loan to the Championship club to aid his development. But Marcelo Bielsa has only given him two cup outings.
The England U20 winger has missed out on the matchday squad several times and has been an unused substitute recently. This has led to Tottenham considering a January recall.
Kazaiah Sterling is also struggling to make an impact – although this is just down to bad luck. The 20-year-old striker is at Doncaster Rovers but he was injured after just four outings (and one goal). Sterling will be eager to shake off his thigh injury and prove himself.
Who’s had a mixed spell?
Cameron Carter-Vickers is on loan at Stoke City and is getting valuable minutes under his belt. However, the USA centre-back has not been able to prevent Stoke from slumping to the bottom of the league. With nine appearances in total (and five league outings in a row), the 21-year-old will hope to lift the Potters to safety.
Elsewhere in the Championship, midfielder Luke Amos started the season brightly with Queens Park Rangers. The 22-year-old started the first few games but has since picked up an injury. He is expected to return soon and he will aim to win his starting spot back.
Anthony Georgiou has looked good at Ipswich Town when given a chance at left-back or on the wing. But the 22-year-old has not made it off the bench in the last three games. The Tractor Boys are four points clear at the top of League One with a game in hand.
Who’s looking good?
Tottenham’s two young midfielders George Marsh and Jack Roles have been the most impressive pair this season. Both are on loan in League Two and are showing why they should be playing at a higher level.
Marsh is at Leyton Orient and he has been getting regular time in the O’s midfield. The 20-year-old is small, tenacious and a strong passer. The newly-promoted East London side have moved into mid-table with Marsh playing his part.
Roles, meanwhile, is doing well in the Cambridge United midfield. The 20-year-old has scored twice for the inconsistent U’s, including a long-range stunner against Mansfield Town recently. He netted in the recent game against Macclesfield Town too.
