How are Manchester United likely to line-up after the summer transfer window?

Jose Mourinho is set for a second season in charge at United, hoping to build upon a fairly successful first one which ended in Europa League glory.

The Portuguese manager has a vast amount of experience when it comes to management, especially in the Premier League, where he will be looking to reinstate the Red Devils status as title contenders.

United are likely to stick to Mourinho’s trusted 4-2-3-1 formation, which gives his sides more than enough defensive cover as well as a potent attacking threat.

The Old Trafford outfit have already signed one player, in former Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, but they will no doubt be adding to their additions over the summer.

Defence

David De Gea is set to maintain his number one spot as United have made progress and returned to the Champions League, as reported by . Lindelof, the Sweden international, will likely slide right in alongside Eric Bailly to form Mourinho’s first-choice centre-back partnership.

Either side of them, Luke Shaw will be hoping to prove himself to Mourinho and turn around what has been a fairly miserable season under Mourinho whilst Antonio Valencia keeps his place at right-back after a very solid season.

The Ecuadorian could end up being made club captain if Wayne Rooney was to leave. The Englishman has been linked to Stoke City recently, as reported by , but he has suggested he would only play for his current side or Everton in the Premier League.

Midfield

Manchester United’s midfield next season will be one packed with talent. In a holding two Paul Pogba has to feature, the world’s most expensive player and arguably the best passer of a ball, alongside a potential new signing in Monaco’s Fabinho, who is expected to be signed shortly, according to . The Brazillian was part of the Monaco team that won the Ligue 1 title this year and were able to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Fabinho, coming in for a large fee, is likely to claim a first-team spot at the beginning of the season meaning fan favourite Ander Herrera may find himself on the bench initially. However, the Spaniard is a key player and it’s likely that he will be a huge figure over the course of the whole campaign.

In front of them, James Rodriguez. The 25-year-old is rumoured to be unhappy at Real Madrid and the Columbian could easily slot into the number ten position for the Manchester side next season. The attacking midfielder has been heavily linked by in recent times.

Attack

A Mourinho side is one that is filled with pace in attacking positions able to punish sides on the counter-attack, and this United side is lining up to be very similar.

Marcus Rashford, arguably England’s best young talent, is likely to occupy a wide right position, with Ivan Perisic, who Man United have been interested in for a while – according to the  – will fill in wide right.

Up top, replacing an outgoing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will be Alvaro Morata. Madrid’s prolific goal-scorer who has become second fiddle to Karim Benzema is expected to sign with the Red Devils this summer, per . At Old Trafford, the player would be first choice, forming one of the most threatening attacks in the league.
