How are Manchester City likely to line-up after the summer transfer window?
If there’s one man in the Premier League that has certainly been keeping busy since the season finished, that man is Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, wasting no time in making new additions.
Within a fortnight of the campaign ending Monaco’s Bernardo Silva and Benfica’s Ederson Moraes were already arriving at the Etihad Stadium – and the spending spree doesn’t look like ending there.
After releasing Willy Caballero and Jesus Navas, along with three defenders in Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy, it’s fairly clear that Guardiola is on the prowl for an entirely new back-line.
And with a fresh speculation circulating almost every day about potential additions to the Etihad, The Boot Room takes a look at how the Citizens could line-up on the opening day against Brighton.
Defence
One area that Guardiola has outlined as a main priority this summer is his defensive line, with inconsistency and individual errors crippling City’s charge for the Premier League title last season.
With both Sagna and Zabaleta vacating the right-back spot, after being released from the club, there is certainly a need for a right-sided defender, and two targets have been at the forefront of rumours.
Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, as reported by , has been touted to become a Manchester City player for a while now and it is believed that talks between the two parties are currently underway.
The first reported back in early May that the 27-year-old wanted to leave White Hart Lane, following a fall-out with boss Mauricio Pochettino, and City’s interest has only grown following this.

Yet, the latest news coming from the suggests that Spurs aren’t going to drop their asking price of £50 million – with Guardiola hesitant to meet this – meaning talks have started to stall.
This unwillingness from Spurs has opened the door for a familiar name to enter the fray in recent weeks however, with the reporting that Dani Alves could be set for a Guardiola reunion.
And with the 34-year-old – who helped Juventus to the Champions League final – being released from the Old Lady this summer, according to , a move to England is certainly on the cards.
On the opposite flank, although things have gone a little quiet in the past few weeks, City have been firmly linked with Monaco and France left-back Benjamin Mendy since the season ended.
claimed back in June that the 22-year-old was on the verge of a £39.8 million switch – something that has failed to materialise – but confirmation of this might not be too far away.
With the potential addition of these three, allied with captain Vincent Kompany, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, Guardiola could be building something strong in Manchester.

Midfield
With the calibre of Kevin de Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Yaya Toure and now Monaco’s Bernardo Silva in their ranks there’s arguably no need for more personnel to come in.
It’s arguable that Manchester City currently possess the strongest, most potent and dangerous midfield in the Premier League – and it’ll be a huge dilemma for Guardiola to work out his best side.
Despite reports from suggesting that Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic is a target – amongst some other abject speculation – it seems that Guardiola is happy with his midfield for now.
Forwards
The Manchester City boss has openly outlined his desire to improve his potency in front of goal next season, despite already having Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero at his disposal, and his main target is clear.
Arsenal and Chile talisman Alexis Sanchez has been on Guardiola’s radar for a prolonged amount of time now and, according to fresh reports from the , they are confident of getting their man.
It could take an offer of around £50 million – with wages that could rise to as high as £300,000-per-week – but, with the 28-year-old refusing a new deal at the Gunners, he could be a City man soon.
With this trio potentially leading the line at the Etihad next season, and with Guardiola now accustomed to the Premier League, it could be an incredibly exciting year to be a City supporter.
