How Ange Postecoglou reacted after finding out Tottenham couldn’t afford to sign Nico Williams
Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer window has seen two significant players added to the squad.
Archie Gray – despite his age – and Dominic Solanke have been the two major signings made by John Lange at Tottenham so far.
But there is still two weeks remaining for the Lilywhites to do some work in the market before the deadline at the end of the month.
Although the Premier League campaign raises its curtain on Friday night, Spurs are not in action until Monday when they travel to Leicester City.
For Ange Postecoglou, this was the summer window where Spurs would see change made across their squad.
And it seems he was keen to make a real statement signing in the form of Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.

Ange Postecoglou wanted Nico Williams at Tottenham
Spurs have added two wingers to their squad this summer but there has to be some caveating done in this circumstances.
Timo Werner has been retained on loan with Yang Min-hyeok also not arriving until January.
However, has now claimed that Postecoglou was hoping to see Spurs make an audacious move for Williams this summer.

Williams lit up Euro 2024 earlier in the summer as the winger even found the back of the net in the final against England.
Spurs, like most top European sides, showed an interest in the player who would have demanded a £50m release clause needing to be payed.
But the Australian manager quickly became aware that such a move was never going to be realistic for Spurs.
Nico Williams could have solved Tottenham’s issues
Going into the summer, Tottenham knew they needed to bolster their options on the right wing and they are still in need of doing so.
Dejan Kulusevski has wowed this summer, but he has done so by playing through the middle whether that be up top or in midfield.
Brennan Johnson enjoyed a solid first campaign at Tottenham but signing someone like Williams would provide a real statement for those across the league.
But the Williams also had interest from Barcelona this summer which would have made it even more difficult for Spurs to secure his signature even if he was in reach.
