Lyon maestro could raise the Emirates Stadium roof if he signs for Arsenal – TBR View

Arsenal hold a long-term interest in Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar. He previously earned praise from Pep Guardiola and that should seriously excite Gunners supporters.

report that the Gunners are still keen to sign him, but they’ll need to sell someone first. Mikel Arteta is a big fan and was heavily linked with a move for the player last summer.

Not landing him during the summer of 2020 might just prove to be a blessing in disguise. His valuation has plummeted considerably now and he’s available for just £20 million.

Arsenal will be among a host of clubs vying for his signature and he looks like a decent player. During 2020/21 he scored eight goals and claimed four assists in a somewhat below-par campaign.

He isn’t a bad player all of a sudden though and interested parties are likely to still come forward.

Where would Aouar fit in at Arsenal?

He could be absolutely perfect for the Gunners. Granit Xhaka looks set to leave, whilst Dani Ceballos has returned to Real Madrid.

Arsenal are left with Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey in their ranks with both players more capable when it comes to the defensive side of things.

Arteta will be desperate for some creativity in the midfield engine room and that makes Aouar the ideal sort of signing.

He loves to get the ball moving forward and can also play in the number 10 role if called upon.

What have they said about Aouar?

Manchester City boss Guardiola is a big gan of Aouar. He praised him following a Champions League clash with Lyon in 2018.

The Spaniard called the 23-year-old following a 2-2 draw and that is high praise indeed.

He also said he was an ‘excellent tactician’ and ‘very calm with the ball at his feet’, raving about the player considerably.

As a result, Arsenal have to act. The Gunners can’t afford to miss out on Aouar again this summer and he’s the type of signing that could raise the Emirates Stadium roof.
