Sam Allardyce drops hint over potential new West Brom signing from abroad
West Bromwich Albion manager Sam Allardyce has suggested that a new striker from overseas is to arrive at The Hawthorns in due course.
The new Baggies boss has wasted no time in bolstering his ranks amid a battle against relegation from the Premier League.
Robert Snodgrass is set to arrive from West Ham, while Andy Lonergan is also reportedly joining and the likes of Hamza Choudhury and Phil Jones have been with a move.
Reports in the national press have suggested that Newcastle forward Andy Carroll and Everton striker Cenk Tosun are on Allardyce’s radar.
However, the 66-year-old told the that he isn’t chasing Carroll, and that Albion’s new striker will arrive from abroad.
“It’s not right, no,” Allardyce said when asked if he is interested in the Magpies man. “I’m looking for a frontman, but I don’t believe Andy is available.
“I think Steve (Bruce), like everyone else, needs his options in this difficult time. At this moment in time, I am not looking at Andy.
“I am looking for a front-man, hopefully, he’ll be coming through the door as quickly as possible. That’ll be from abroad, rather than from this country.”

Allardyce speaking about a player coming through the door as soon as possible and specifying he’d be coming from abroad suggests he’s got his eyes on someone in particular, and perhaps the club in talks with him.
West Brom are in dire need of a decent goalscorer, having netted just 11 goals in the league this season – Callum Robinson and Conor Gallagher are the only players to have scored more than once in the top flight this season.
And with Karlan Grant out injured, the Baggies’ need for a new forward is stronger and more pressing than ever – but perhaps it’s good news that Carroll isn’t in the frame, given his injury record over the years.
